CALVARY CHAPEL

The next question, is what do you do with all the people? Sunday morning services at Calvary Chapel went from one morning service to two services, then to three services. Pastor Chuck did all the morning services as well as a verse by verse Sunday night study through the whole Bible over a two year period. The Word of God played a major part in the ministry of Calvary Chapel.

God called Pastor Chuck to be a shepherd over the flock He gave him and with a shepherd's heart he indeed fed the flock. The meetings grew so large that cars were parked up and down all the surrounding streets, as far as a half a mile away over the 405 freeway overpass. The sounds of the Costa Mesa Police Department helicopters could be heard overhead during these Bible studies. The police were not quite sure why a crowd that big would gather for just a Bible study? Calvary Chapel continued to grow and grow as the Lord added to the church daily.

Soon major magazine publishers heard what God was doing on the West Coast of So. California. Life magazine did an article. This was at the time many gathered at Corona Del Mar for large baptism services. The picturesque Pacific Ocean was a splendid setting as Christian's gathered on the cliffs above to sing songs of worship while hundreds below the cliffs were baptized in the ocean. The German magazine Bunte arrived from Europe to cover this West Coast phenomenon. Then Look magazine, and then Time magazine.

Whole families were receiving the Lord into their lives and becoming born-again Christians. Young people were telling everyone they met about the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. Neighborhoods were getting saved. This was becoming a West Coast revival that was sweeping California. Theologians would make appointments with Pastor Chuck asking him what was the secret formula to the success of Calvary Chapel? Chuck would smile that big contagious smile and say, "Jesus!"
