The Advocates (UK)

The Advocates Dovetail 1973
British pop rockers deliver a fine debut full of hooks and melodies. I'm usually not a fan of horns, but here they're used to good effect. Lots of organ, too, giving it more of a 60's sound and recalling other British outfits. They get down into some loud rock and roll on 'No Man's Land', 'Jumpin' Jeremiah', and 'Alive'. 'Rebel's Song' is done acappella in the style of a madrigal. Premier album on the Dovetail label. Goofy cover with cartoon caricatures of the band. KS

Here I Rest My Case Dovetail 1975
Another fine platter of melodic British pop rock. The group bid adieu to the horns this go around and overall it's not as rowdy as the debut. Some songs like 'Criticism' and 'The Problem Of Me' have an interesting psych quality to them courtesy of organ and fuzz guitar. 'The Leper' recalls the ballads of The Beatles' Rubber Soul era. A cappella rendition of the hymn 'Man Of Sorrows'. Somewhat of a concept album presenting the claims and evidences of the Christian faith through song. KS
