Blanchard's stirring baritone voice and spirited countryside folk manner brings to mind the music of Gordon Lightfoot and Leo Koettke. On Canticle the 12-string guitar sparkles alongside excellent lead work by Taylor Amerding, with Greta providing vocal harmony. Soothing acoustic melodies as well as more lively jamming, with bass and drums providing the rhythm backdrop. The Noel Paul Stookey-produced Quail followed things up on a softer note. Cool and soothing jazz folk recalling the tranquility of Chet Atkins or Earl Klugh, coasting from carefree be-bopping to contemplative ballads. Michael later penned his most recognized song 'Be Ye Glad', later made popular by the group Glad. I've probably used more comparisons hare than I need to - Michael Kelly Blanchard is an artist in his own right. KS
