Dove

Dove Myrrh 1972
Early Myrrh co-ed light folk rock group alternating ballads with bright sprightly tunes. Songs like 'Exit' showcase fine acoustic guitar work ala Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. I don't think Bob Farrell was in the group yet - I don't recognize him on the back cover. Enough good moments to justify obtaining, though their second lp is clearly better. KS

Dove II Shalom 1974
Dove leaves the nest and soars miles above their debut. Leaving the simple folkrock feel of that lp, they've developed a rich textured sound layered with synths, mellotron, and even touches of progressive art rock. Starved proggies will swallow the opening cut whole with its 70's prog guitars and keyboards (I think I heard Camel in there for about three seconds). Norman's 'Tha Outlaw' and Pat Tarry's 'Seen It Now' both get lush arrangements. 'Bad News Blues' growls out the world's woes before ending on a more upbeat groove about the "good news". New to the group is Bob Farrell on bass and Sonny Lallarstedt is enlisted for lead guitar - both played on the Millenium album which has a similar sound. A good deal of ballads here, but well worth it for the progressive stuff. Colorful deluxe gatefold cover. KS
