In The Skies

Peter Green was the founder of Fleetwood Mac in the late 60's, and one of the leading blues and rock guitarists of his time, rivalling the likes of Eric Clapton. After experimentation with drugs, and a few too many acid trips, he began to unravel mentally, quit Fleetwood Mac at the height of their fame, and after one peculiar solo album, dropped out of the music scene altogether. Both he and fellow Fleetwood Mac guitarist, Jeremy Spencer, were exploring Christian ideas at the same time as getting into acid - quite a common phenomenon in the late 60s.

A young Peter

After a period as a recluse and a few spells in mental institutions, Peter re-emerged briefly in 1979, with the album "In The Skies", which included an old FM song, a few instrumentals and a couple of songs with seemingly Christian lyrics. There were many rumours at the time that Peter's contributions on the album didn't really stretch much further than singing - even if the album does refer to Christianity, it isn't associated with Peter, as his brother Mike wrote the lyrics throughout the album. Any "longtime" fan of the Green God would be aware that he was at his peak in his Fleetwood Mac days, rather than his on again off again solo career.

After two more albums, Peter dropped out of sight again, returning to the life of a recluse in London, growing his finger nails so long that it was impossible for him to play the guitar. And there things remained until 1996, when an old friend took him in, cared for him and helped him start to play music again. He formed a new band, called the Splinter Group and started playing low-key concerts in the south of England.
