Rebirth

Into the Light RCR 1970
First custom lp from from talented Virginia college students performing in the flowing electric hippie folkrock groove. Some classic 60's folk harmonies with harpsichord. a bit of straightforward acoustic folk, and one totally unexpected explosion of manic fuzz guitar. Spooky organ checking in here and there for that twinge of psych. Trumpet in a couple spots. Title cut has fleeting moments of Wilson McKinley and The Youngbloods. Singers all have nice voices, particularly Elaine Warfel. As with bands like The Bridge, I believe the appropriate word here is "charming." KS

Rebirth LeFevre Sound 1970
Nice similarly-styled follow-up with laid back self-penned charmers like 'Jesus Life', 'Heaven Knows" and 'The Way I Feel' as well as hip translations of 'They'll Know We Are Christians' and Nilsson's 'Everybody's Talkin', plus a seven-minute bluesy meander through Gershwin's 'Summertime'. KS

Rebirth Avant Garde 1972
For their Avant Garde release, Rebirth selected and in some cases re-recorded songs from their two rare customs. Eight songs are lifted from the second lp (along with the cover photo), four from Into The Light. The end result is one of the nicer jangly electric folkrock albums to see light. Have seen it advertised as "folk/psych". KS
